Delve into the world of fermentation with practical skills you can build on.

Fermentation has been practised by many societies since long before industrialisation and processed foods. Adding a culture or salt to foods enables the growth of Lactobacillus bacteria cultures (probiotics), which preserve the food through the production of lactic acid. Fermented foods are full of healthy enzymes, minerals and live cultures that create a flourishing internal environment and help boost beneficial gut flora, all contributing to good digestion, a strong immune system and protection from toxic pollutants. They also help our bodies draw nutrients from our food.

I have teamed up with Debbie Pym, GAPS Practitioner and Nutritional Naturopath, and together we offer regular workshops around Perth to introduce you to the art of fermentation and equip you with simple practical skills to ferment at home. Workshops are run from different venues around the Metro area. Why learn alone, when you can share the experience and fun of fermenting with a small group of likeminded people.

Classes alternate between learning to make kimchi, kombucha, kefir and kvass. And yogurt, sour cream, sauerkraut and cultured vegetables. Debbie also imparts her knowledge and wisdom and conducts a PowerPoint presentation on the importance of the microbiome and how to overcome various gut associated ailments such as bloating, indigestion, reflux, constipation and diarrhoea.
